A Ceramics Workshop
Instructor:
Kate Missett
SKU: 174-MW15
Price: $220.00

In this workshop we will explore the possibilities of very low fire techniques such as china paint, lustre and decals. This traditional range of firing allows the potter to add a wide range of colors to an already glazed and fired surface. You can also add metallic surfaces such as gold and silver, as well as Mother of Pearl and other colored lustres to add a magical shimmer to your pieces. Once the province of china painters, this range of firing and techniques has become increasingly popular with potters as they seek to add a greater variety of surface possibilities to their work. In this two-day format, we will work one day and fire overnight to see results immediately. Students should bring some glazed pieces (high or low fire) to work on. Students may fire 2 pieces at 6x6x6 inches, or one piece 9x9x9 inches.

Kate Missett is a ceramic artist as well as an adjunct professor at City University, Artworks program director at the West Side YMCA, and an instructor at Greenwich House Pottery where she has been teaching a special topics class on Low Fire Techniques. Her work is represented by Carter Burden Gallery in Chelsea. Website: KateMissett.com
