This weekend workshop will focus on making animal heads, the most challenging and intricate part of any animal figure. Each participant will pick a mammal that resonates with them. The workshop with Lisa Naples will help them create a custom neck that will build a bridge between the head and the bell shape (provided by artist). A “clapper” will be imagined and formed as well to complete the bell. Nichrome wire will be used to create loops both inside the bell and at the end of the clapper to connect them (via chain) after they’ve been fired. On day two, the participants will spend the afternoon to decorate the constructed bells with both viscous (dry brush) and fluid, colored slips.

Lisa Naples works and teaches from her barn in Doylestown, PA. She received her MFA from NSCAD in 1988. In 2014 Ceramic Arts Daily released 2 videos on her work/process. Before that she was awarded the Ceramics Prize at the PMA Craft Show in 2012. In 2010 she won “Best of Philly” and was featured in: “Masters Earthenware”. Lisa Naples clay works have been featured in select exhibitions at the Michener Art Museum, Smithsonian and Phila. Museum of Art Craft Shows. She has lectured and given workshops around the US and Australia. In 2005 she was awarded an NCECA residency in Australia which fundamentally changed her studio life.
