In this fun and empowering class students will create 2 different painted Relief Portraits in plaster, cast from a plaster mold taken from a clay original. Sounds complicated, right? Well, this class makes it simple and exciting! Students will learn the process of creating bas-relief portraits in clay (faces and designs are slightly raised off a flat background), also learn the technique of creating a one-piece plaster mold (negative) that can be used to create multiple (positive) versions of the clay original, as well as learning clay and plaster carving techniques. In this workshop, students will finish two unique plaster reliefs-one naturalistic and an altered/transformed version. Plus students will take home a plaster mold that can be used to make even more Relief Portraits in the future, in a variety of mediums. Materials included.
