Bring a bag lunch and dress for an artful summer experience. Weekly art show to celebrate your child’s artistic accomplishments. Register Early.
Session 1: "Pop-Art'sy Timelines" (5 days) July 10-14 (Mon.- Fri.)
A wonderland of adventures awaits, as you transport yourself to a vibrant world of bold color, thick outlines line, and cartoon imagery. Use techniques in painting, printmaking, illustration, and more to create individual pieces that will be displayed as an artistic storyboard. Children will study the “comic strip” style art of Roy Lichtenstein and the favorite Andy Warhol.
Session 2: “Pop Ups Galore” (5 days) July 17-21 (Mon.-Fri.)
Jump off the surface with American artists, Louise Nevelson & Julian Schnabel. This week children will learn to create relief sculptures, assemblages, and mosaic. Children will also study contemporary paper crafters and create 3D art using cut paper. (ALL Mature and Young Artists, please bring an old book to see your art jump off the page)
Session 3: “Fabulous Furry Friends” (5 days) July 24-28 (Mon.- Fri.)
Join us for a wild adventure of painting, sculpting, printmaking and drawing our furry and exotic animal friends. Our favorite live animal show will spark your imagination and curiosity. Study these fabulous creatures up close and see how they move, jump, wiggle and fly.
Session 4: “Splatter Crazy” (5 days) July 31-Aug 4 (Mon.- Fri.)
ReadySetPaint! Create an energetic collection of art inspired by Long Island’s own Jackson Pollock. Drip, splatter, drag, swirl, and blot your sculptures, drawings, crafts and paintings. Children will learn to use Pollock’s “action painting” technique to create surface change and texture to enhance their artistic creations. Please dress for an extra messy week.
Session 5: “Magical Portal” (5 days) Aug 7-11 (Mon.- Fri.)
Dive into the sidewalk or stand on top of the world. Learn to create optical illusions and believable moments inspired by the art of famous American chalk artist, Julian Beever. Paint, draw, design and illustrate a glimpse into your magical world. Study other street artists who have brought the element of surprise to the everyday sidewalk and building.
